More on Verbs

There is a lot of information in Hart’s grammar on verbs. The ten class and the present system of tense conjugations are just one part, but there’s also participles both present and past, the passive, the causative, continuatives, and more. It would have been ideal to link all those pages here within the same drop-down menu, but I discovered that the javascript dropdown menus that come with this theme or installation of WordPress only provide a single level of dropdown. It is not possible to do a second level where an item in the dropdown menu produces a second pop-out menu, as we have on some sites in Mandala. (See the Visualizations site, for instance.)

This means that in order for all the topics concerning verbs to be in a single menu that menu would have to be rather long, perhaps prohibitively so. It was due to this limitation that I created a second menu for “Verbs.” I have used the initial Verb page I created for this menu and promoted the “Verb Classes” page to a top level category, placing all the verb class pages under it. This leaves us with two top-level menus: “Verb Classes” containing all the verb classes and “Verbs” with links to these other important aspects of Sanskrit Verbs.

A multi-level expandable menu would have been best, but that doesn’t seem to be an option in this environment, though I have not explored it fully. Still, this is a workable compromise. As the first step to filling out the “Verb” menu, I have completed the section on Present Participles.
