Finished First Pass
Finished the first pass of Hart’s grammar with the aorist, desiderative, intensive, and denominative. Except for the aorist, all the rest were shorter pages. In my own studies, I have also finished doing the exercises in Hart’s grammar. So, the next two tasks that face me for this site are to proof the existing pages and begin adding the answer key. Unfortunately, I have no one to check my answers, at least for now. However, I will review each answer, reverse translating them to see how close I come, and at the same time look for someone to review them, though I doubt I can find someone to commit to that much work for nothing other than a website.
Another addition I’d like to add to the site is further grammatical sections on things not extensively covered in Hart but found in Whitney, such as adverbs, verbal nouns, isolated tense endings, and whatever else that storehouse reference might provide. Of course, this is a morass that could easily swallow me in pursuing minutia. So, I do want to filter it by usefulness for learning the language.
Speaking of Whitney, I did recently discover a digital edition of his Sanskrit Grammar on Wikisource. This is a huge find. What an impressive resource! I personally prefer my hard copy when at home, but to have a digital copy available anywhere, searchable and linkable, obviously has great benefits. I am extremely impressed at the effort and acumen required to create such a resource. The web truly is amazing, and people more so.
Thus, ends the initial, creation phase of this site. Now that I have this reference resource for my own study, I shall probably spend more time actually learning the language than updating this site, but I suspect I will return to working on it fairly soon.
